Subject: 88 West Speedo cable problem after brake job
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

I had a local shop do a 'brake job' on my westy and the result are great brakes, but alas, the speedometer didn't register. I took the van back and the mechanic took the left front hubcap off (with the attached flex cable) to show me what he had done and then put it back on but, still no joy.

I didn't look closely at the end of the cable so I don't know what the shape or configuration was. I know that this cable runs to the EGR mileage counter next to the spare tire. I disconnected it there and looked at both parts that should mate in some fashion to transmit the turning motion of the cable, but I couldn't see what was supposed to be there.

Can anyone on the list tell me what I should see?

I think that the mechanic should have taken the little circlip off the hubcap rather than pulling the cable out, but the Bentley isn't entirely clear on this operation.

TIA,

John Graham 88 Westy Charlotte, NC
