Subject: Water pump leak with only 300 Miles
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Hi all
Well add this one to the list of vanagon things.
so before i put this motor into my vanagon i took extra care in installing a new water pump with all new seals and gaskets everywhere. i did my oil change just a
few days ago with 20-50w oil and started it to get pressure up. no leaks nothing looked good. saw that the axle boots were just on there final rub and were thin
and one had a pin hole in it so i regreased the spare set with good boots on them and swapped them out last night as i was walking under the bus (it was on the
lift) i saw a small wet drip on the oil filter and found it to be coolant. it looks as if it came from the small hole under the pulley shaft. What the heck is this all about
it has less then 500 miles but more then 300. is it need to seat?? can i spray a small amount of PB blast in the hole to make the seal seat the shaft?? im not in
the mood to swap this thing out. what can i do.
also for those following the westi saga, the van performed great to the camp site and did well coming back. after the lifters shut up that is. power was fine and it
sounded good and ran fine with ample power and ran on all 4 cylinders. i pulled the oil and filter that had Marvel oil and put in 20-40 for now and will see what
happens. now the water pump aaaarrrrggggghhhh!!! Thanks Jonce
