Bob,
Yes I did have the idiot light coming on before the gauge addition. I
run 20w50 Dino, and a Mann filter, but after owning the vehicle for a
year the light with stock sending unit started to flicker. At first it
seemed to be a wiring or ground issue, because the flicker did not
correspond to a low RPM or idle. After a few more drives the light
settled down and only came on during warm idle. That's when I thought it
prudent to put in the gauge. Your indication of the higher set point
for the light explains why the flicker has been replaced by continuous
illumination. I would appreciate you sending your write up to me
regarding the main bearings. I always endeavor to learn more about the
beast. Thank you for your response and to the others who took time out
of their days to give my problem some thought.

The VDO gauge comonly shows 0 pds oil pressure hot and the sender they
have
with the gauge or the oil light comes on at a higher pressure than the
stock
switch.
did you have an oil pressure problem before you installed the VDO gauge
Did
the oil light come on at a hot idle
the 1.9 engine over time has the problem of the main bearings pounding
out
the case over time and at 161K you have this problem
if the light did not before you swapped out the stock switch for the VDO
then drive on
I have a page or 2 about the 1.9 engine and the main bearing problem if
you
pmail me I will send it you you

Subject: REPLACING OIL PUMP
Hi Volks,
Well the oil pressure light has gotten more persistent. I put in a VDO
gauge and press is not good. At warm idle I have just above Zero and at
4000 rpm I have about 18 psi. I was wondering if any one has done a
write up on replacing the oil pump. I have an '85 auto Westy, with
161K. I know it's putting on a band-aid but looking to buy myself some
time. Thanks for your time.
