It has been stated here on the list that Bentley has corrected it's lifter
setting in newer publications to use Bob Donalds .006 setting for 1.9 and
2.1 WBXers, I think it might go for Air Cooled with hydraulic lifters too.
It has also been mentioned that often lifters catch a lot of the very fine
metal particles from new rings / cylinders etc and this causes problems
getting them to settle down.
I've destroyed many lifters in my investigations and trying to discover air
lock and never found any residual metal residue in any Air Cooled lifters.
Since lifters are mass produced I'd suspect that a few low quality machined
parts might be slipping through into dealer stocks.
I'm not going to buy a set and disassemble them to prove my point but with
the general poor quality of parts being shipped into the US at this time it
makes a good scapegoat.
I've had many new defects over the past few years that range from Ford
window regulators, VW front wheel bearings, Porsche fuel pump relays &
flasher relays. That includes 1/2 empty new R134a cans and defective gauges
on refrigeration double gauge manifolds.
I'm not blasting any list vendors so, please; No Flames.
