If the trans was assemble correctly and the band adjustment was not tampered with, then there is no reason or benefit to adjusting it. There is more than enough piston travel to accommodate wear.

Has anyone any advice on adjusting the band in an '86 auto trans?

The Bentley manual isn't all that helpful for an operating transmission. . (I think it assumes a new installation). . . . especially when the adjuster screw is usually fixed in with Lock-tight. Then it is almost impossible to do anything with the light tensions recommended.

What do others do?

Thanks

Dave
