Hi Folks,
 I just acquired a 1980 aircooled Adventurewagen with the Behr in dash AC. 
The interior looks in decent shape. Engine only has 85 miles from a long 
block. However, it is aircooled and has lived in Pacifica, California almost 
all it's life. For those unfamiliar with the region, Pacifica is only 3 
miles from San Francisco but most cars there look like they are from the 
East Coast. Lot's of cold damp air laden with sea salt.
 Anyway, the rain gutters are starting to rot. The bolts and trim for the 
fiberglass hightop is almost totally rusted. Since aircooled Vanagon campers 
are not highly valued here, it does not make economic sense to restore it. I 
want to use the top to convert a Syncro van or one of my inline-4 
watercooled Vanagons.
 Can someone who has installed these tops on a regular van give me some 
insight on what lies ahead? Removal of the top will be the easy part. I'm 
not sure how the bed assembly is attached yet. The ceiling appears padded. 
Is that an add-on or just pads under what was the headliner? I plan on 
getting this started mid-week. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
