Donna, I may have my original Heidelberg around and it is free for the shipping. However perhaps now is a time to consider a nice looking more functional upgrade.

MP3 ability, cassette ability, CD ability would be something to think about.

I use a blaupunkt CD player, an MPD-01 Microdrive 1GB MP3 unit, and a Blaupunkt America Sirius Sattelite receiver in my SVX Westy Syncro. I use a Thummer remote that lives on the steering wheel to control all but the channel select on the Sirius.

One could substitute a Blaupunkt Reno Cassette player if books on tape are desirable and match it with a cassette changer, easily mounted to the front of the passenger seat pedestal add the remote ...

Blaupunkt uses a CDC proprietary cd changer protocol to control MPD-01 and cd changers. So any compatible changer would work.

Aesthetically, the Sirius America, Funline and Skyline removable face receiver units match the VDO style dash and instruments. The MPD-01 is the size of a paperback and can reside under the dash behind the glovebox or just sit in the glovebox.

The Thummer remote is an infrared controller that lives on the steering wheel.

Jot down the requirements and prioritize, then make your upgrade decision based on the requirements YOU feel are important.

Kragen Auto sells a receiver that has a USB port on the front for MP3, plays cd cdrw and so on for 99 USD. I have copies of many of the Blaupunkt Manuals in pdf format should you like some. I can post them temporarily on the Yahoo Vanagon Group. Pmail for more.
