Subject: Will fiberglass insulation burn?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

I am getting way too much interior heat from the propane burner of the dometic 182b.I cant use even if it did cool enough ,in summer.I have checked the gas pressure , and it is at 11 inches .The orifice is little used, and the setting of the flame on low does not allow refrigeration (as is normal), but still gives off quite a bit of interior heat. The 110 volt function doesent give off near this much heat. I checked for a leaking exhaust pipe, that may be dumping gasses into the interior of my van,but there were none(use a CO detector).I am going to insulate the upper ,"corrigated" portion of the exhaust vent .I think I can do this by packing in rock wool(if I could find it) or fiberglass insulation like found in houses.I measured the heat coming from the various parts of the refrig, and believe that most is coming from the upper portion of the vent.If I can insulate this like the lower part, most of the heat should exit the van.The way the vent is boxed into the rear , I think I can pack this in tight, like the lower portion, and that it will stay put.Mayber a baffel on top of the frig near the vent will help in this packing.Access is great by going through the side vent opening on the cabinet.I'll tamp the insulation down with a stick, through this hole.Anyone ever done this? What type of insulation will work?Less heat out here may get a few more degrees out of the ole 182b on the inside of the box.
