And how can you stand the truck-like ride? Around town in our 86 Westy Weekender I run the 205/65-15 Yokohama AVs tires at 36 and 40 psi f & r, and it rides likes a Mercedes; no hammering from the tires, just a distant thump on tar strips etcetera. Fully loaded and off to a festival I put them up to 44 and 48 for the highway. I've been doing the same with our 84 GL for 12 years or so, and it hasn't been bad for the tires in any way. I'm presently running Bridgestone Turanzas on that van, 195/75-14. Pretty old tire tech there, especially compared to the Yokies! I asked a similar question years ago and never got an answer really. On my 86 syncro westy I run my 215/65-15 Michelin Agilis 51 tires at maximum pressure (I think its 54 psi) all four corners. I haven't experienced any abnormal tire wear and I find my handling good, and my milage is better with the high pressure.
