I don't cut the rings.  I use a #11 X-Acto knife and cut the hose from
beneath the rings.  The rings can then be reused ... and/or you can add
hose clamps if it makes you feel safer.

On my '84 I reused the rings and also used clamps.  On my '85 I just
reused the rings (no clamps).  Neither engine has leaks at the injector
hoses.
