Subject: Re: Vanagon Starter - windings available?

Thanks for all your responses on this. It would appear that as I suspected, rebuilt is a pretty vague term these days. Funny the guy that originally rebuilt/broke my starter was a version of Seinfeld's soup Nazi. You pretty much walked in, handed over the starter, took two steps to the right and bowed out. I made the mistake of mentioning this forum and nearly got kicked out as he apparently had a large issue with web knowledge (or in his case, perceived lack of it) He came recommended from the import specialist shop that does the work I'm too lazy to perform. Hindsight being what it is, I would have just replaced it with an IMI unit from the onset. I'll be pulling the unit out for the fourth time shortly to see what the local Bosch shop can do with it. My thinking is that any way you slice it, I'm out another few hundred either way.
