Why?

I am in dog rescue, and I certainly feel for the thousands of homeless
animals killed each day. But once you are are dead, your body is just a
carcass. Why is cremation a "better" solution? Why dispose of carcasses
in a way that adds to the pollution and costs valuable energy, without
giving back anything? How is that more noble, or in any way preferable
to a disposal method that helps reduce pollution, and gives energy back,
that helps the environment and humanity? I am sorry, I just do not get
it. If someone cares and wants to bury their pet, great. And then this
is a non issue anyway. But for those who simply turn the body over to
the vet to dispose of, or for those animals in shelters who were
unwanted and unloved in the first place, how in God's name is cremation
any better?

Quite the opposite, I see this as a much more noble end, a way for their
deaths to actually have some real meaning. Of course I would rather see
them have good loving homes. But that isn't happening. And I see no
respect or honor in a faceless, nameless cremation.

I would gladly give my dogs over for this sort of disposal, both my
rescues and my personal dogs. I know they would all chose the path that
helped humans, if they were given the choice. And I can honor their
memory in a lot better ways than an urn with some sort of "ashes" in it
on my mantle.
