But if you could do without your spare--mount it somewhere else-- you could operate the spare tire well as a scoop that would pick them up for you at the touch of a button (or you could just operate it mechanically with a second emergency brake handle, say) and load them in right in front of the tank. The vanagon design is ideal for this sort of operation.

You could drive around the world without stopping, provided you stayed within the Cat Lattitudes.

People are a lot harder to come by, there's usually digging involved. Trust me.
