Hi Paul, As you know, oil pressure is a hard one to judge. I think the removal of oil pressure gauges in more modern cars is as much a cost cutting thing as a question of not trying to confuse people with too much information! Anyway, there is one web page which lists some oil pressure numbers. It is at http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/survey.htm (I also don't drive around at 4000 RPM very much!) On my very used engine, I get ~30 PSI at 3200-4000 rpm with a hot (hot, not warm) engine. If I go up a hill, the pressure might drop to ~28 psi. At idle immediately after a hill, say, I will see less than 4 psi. This is with an 80 PSI electric gauge, so the resolution isn't that good. To confuse matters further, I used to have a mechanical gauge on that read a bit lower than the electric gauge. I like the electric gauge more because the numbers are higher! Good luck, tabe johnson/87 westy |
