It is the exemption of that city bus that allows it to belch far more than is permissable of other vehicles. Recent notes show that rules on heavy semi rigs and with new fuels rules in place, that even the older big rigs now pump less pollutants than many city buses in cities that are screaming about pollution. Note there are a lot of exceptions to this as many cities are now mandating B20 or LPG or CNG conversions to their bus fleets. Here in denver no such thing is being done by RTD but the city still screams that it cant meet pollution standards.

The big sticker is that many states exempt the big buses and instead of replacing with newer buses when they die they re-engine them with the same old style engines. Cheaper yes, but playing with laws is what they are doing.

And on a side note , I happen to like cats. Interesting independent animals. jimt
