Jeff,

I don't know about the cost of a 6-cylinder Subare conversion, but the cost of a 6-cylinger Porsche conversion is painfully expensive if you do it the right way. I know, I built one.

I won't say how much money I have into my '87 Vanagon GL with a 3.2 liter Porsche Carrera engine because I don't know (I stopped keeping track after it got painfully expensive). However, the $20,000 price tag on the 6-cylinder Subaru Vanagon on The Samba appears to be a relative bargain.

Just doing the engine right is expensive (add time consuming and difficult if it is your first time), but you have to take so many other things into consideration (transmission, brakes, etc.).

Would I do it again? You bet!

Cheers, Bruce motorbruce@hotmail.com
