We just returned from a trip through Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C., Idaho, a small corner of Washington and Oregon and all the way across Montana. The only place I noticed diesel more expensive than gas was in Idaho (We did not see many fuel stations in Washington or Oregon.) At the Wetwesties camp out in Union Oregon there were 24 buses present from 1960 to 1991. There were at least two 1.9 TDI powered Vanagons and at least two 1.9 TD powered Vanagons (a couple were Syncro's). The owners of the diesels were all happy with the performance and the economy of there rigs. George '85 Westfalia (1.9 WBX)
