I believe that your stock radio fits in the standard sleeve, and can be
released with the usual tool or a suitable piece of wire or welding rod,
etc.
Remove the ash tray and reach into the hole to encourage the radio to
come out.  You will probably see that the rear of the radio is supported
by a rubber projection that fits into a hole in a supporting bracket.
  If there is no sleeve or it is not compatible with the new radio, you
may need to install the type that comes with your Pioneer.  The front to
back length (depth) is sometimes an issue  If so, the rear support
bracket can be bent or eliminated.
  Hopefully you have the plug that goes into the back of the Pioneer,
with reasonable lengths of wire.  You will probably need to cut off the
stock VW plug and splice on the Pioneer plug, using crimp connectors or
solder and tape or heat-shrink tubing.  Else it may be possible to buy
an adapter to save you that trouble.
