Actually it can be very instantaneous, if you're in the right gear so as to take advantage of the boost. My "daily" is a little sleeper. An inocuous looking Mazda 626 GT (5 door hatch) with a 2.2 L, 12 valve inter-cooled turbo I4. If it's at 3000 and you mash it, it's a rocket ship. Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and a degree of whiteness to your knuckles. I've been wondering how one could adapt an engine like that to a westy. For even more fun, try a Subaru WRX STI.
