While the subject matter may draw raised eyebrows it has had a long run in a business that doesn't see many. Just because the topic showed up on a show about unusual phenom isn't a reason to discount it until you've tested acetone. Of course, adding a few tablespoonful of acetone might be too much of a pain for many but if you're already driving an old beater that can't be hurt you're probably getting really bad mileage and could use a few percent increase in mpg.
