I'm not sure about the radios/CD decks being sold these days, I am aware that car radios I've purchase over the past 3 decades have a tiny little hole in the back, bottom or side that has a tiny single slot screw called an antenna trimmer for AM useage. Usually, the radio's instructions showed where it was and to tune to the station closest to 1400Khz. After tuning in the station, take a tiny screwdriver to the antenna trimmer screw and turn it until you can get the station at it's loudest (otherwise the signal at it's strongest). Can't remember if it was clockwise or counter-clockwise or if it even mattered. I just know from experience this usually works. Hope this helps.
