Ok.  That strengthens the argument almost to 100% that you have an
antenna problem.  Whether it's a connection, cable or the antenna
itself, we don't know.

The ones I'm familiar with come with the cable already attached.  You
can try wiggling the cable at the base of the antenna while the radio is
on; if you hear anything change, even if you're off a station, then you
probably have a broken connection and might as well go for a new
antenna.  You can get a cheapy at the local FLAPS for a few bucks to
be sure before buying a quality one from an on-line vendor.

(A note: It helps everyone for people to come back and tell us what was
*really* wrong after getting advice from the list.  We can all learn
something new if we guessed wrong.)
