jeff,

In my experience, save the rental fee. Instead, get some Castrol Purple Super Cleaner (I think that's what it is called, anyway it's purple), a scrub brush and a water hose. Soak the carpet with water, liberally spray on the Castrol cleaner then go at it with the scrub brush. After you scrub it down thoroughly, rinse it and keep rinsing it. I do not care it is a cafe latte stain the size of West Virginia or road tar, the Castrol cleaner will lift it. The rinsing is the hardest part of the procedure because it take forever to float away all the crap which is imbedded in a car carpet. The carpet fiber is synthetic and a fairly open weave so it dries rather quickly. Since it is such an odd three dimensional shape and heavy as hell whenever it is saturated, it is nearly impossible to hang; throwing it over some saw horses or such will allow the water to drain off.

George
