Venus, runaway greenhouse, 400°C-plus. Caused by 
the planet's being too close to the sun to have 
anything else.

Most of us are not in any grave danger of this. 
Having said that, there's a major active fault 
running right under Dunedin... Auckland is a 
volcanic center and could resume erupting at any 
time (or merely form a new "lake" overnight... 
the lakes scattered around the suburbs are maars, 
caused by volcanic steam explosions... and the 
nastiest volcano in the world, Taupo, is 
currently a lake in the middle of NZ's North 
Island.
