One thing curious that no one has mentioned as a reason for lower front tire pressure on the Vanagons is passenger comfort. Now, right now I'm running 44 psi front and rear on the Bridgestone Duelers I've got on my Westy Syncro. That's the max pressure they are rated for. The ride up front is much harsher over bumps than with lower pressure up front. The rears bulge out a little more than I like (but I'm carrying more in the rear than most Vanagons.) Why am I using the Duelers? Cause they were there. They wouldn't have been my choice, I inherited them from a previous owner. They have good tread on them and I've been experimenting with them (though I wouldn't buy a set of them new, mainly due to the maximum pressure rating.)
