RE: Slant Six Roger wrote "During its first year of existance , it was made of aluminum. These are a prize today." Sorry Roger, they were no prize then or now. Incredible corrosion/blocked cooling system problems with the early aluminum block Slant Six, had one in my '61 Valiant, got rid of it for a '62 Valiant Signet, 225 Slant Six, traded it in for a new '67 Valiant Signet and drove that (with other cars) until about '79. The last two were great engines, lousy carburetors, great transmissions. The first, with the aluminium block, was a pig. These wee the first few years of Detroit learning to use aluminum in blocks, engine cases, and heads and a lot of mistakes were made. |
