Just wanted to remind that batteries in the passenger compartment didn't start with the Vanagon. The old Beetle had it under the rear seat (at least my '61 did). We certainly would be aware of by now if it were a significant risk. Agreed that that particular concern should be pushed way, way down on the stack or better, just forgotten.
