I have a dometic that is removed from the van. I looked at the ignitor cable that goes from the push button, down to the burner box. Where the ignitor cable makes a sharp 90 degree bend to go into the box, my cable was frayed. Or rather, the covering of the cable ( a web like mesh)where it meets the box.Excellent looking tinder. I cut some of this covering off and lit it with a match. It burns just like a firecracker fuse. It smells and looks like it too. No flame, just an ember smolders as it moves along. I think it would continue to burn till it reached the end of the cable. Only then ,its a dud. There is nothing else to burn along this path,so it goes out ,I would believe.Where the cable makes its sharp turn, a crack in the insulation of the cable may allow a spark to jump out prematurely. .Especially if damaged when the frig is installed. A spark would have to jump at least 3/8 inch to ground at this curve.Dont think there is any real risk of a larger fire, but I am sure that this can scare the heck out of anyone. On my unit, I removed all this cable sheath at the 90 degree bend.Just in case.
