Subject: hubcap fit on 14" w/ bfg at's
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

i am on my 2nd set of hubcaps. both have been of the same style, which is the only style i've ever seen. the first set was from target, the 2nd from gowesty. they have a wire ring that fits on the inside of ~10 plastic tabs. the ring pushes the tabs against the inside of the wheel.

i pound the hubcaps in with my fist, and they seem ~tight, but they spin away as soon as i get up to speed. it's fun to hear them rattle and zing as they come off, and then watch them spin onto the shoulder and into the bushes. this last time, i recovered the caps and now they hang in my garage.

my bfg at's have rubber that sticks out past the edge of the rim, which seems to hit against the edge of the hubcap when i'm putting it on. so part of the hubcap is flush with the tire edge, and part of it overlaps awkwardly. it seems like i could sand a 1/4 inch of hubcap, and it will seat a little better. but is that really the problem? is there some trick that i haven't figured out? i've never had a car with hubcaps before, is it common to have to buy a new set every week or so?

my wheels are really ugly, all multicolored with rust patches. these wheels would make it look like i have fancy aluminum rims, and that is really important to me.

thanks.
