That's a cool look Brian. How are the brakes with the extra lever of those wheels? Keep your pants on, I'm just asking. I put much taller wheels and tires on my 69 Chevy Pickup and found it WAY harder to stop. :-) Jake

Hi Jake,

Thanks for the compliment. I get a lot of attention in this thing, the truth is I dropped in to get it into my garage and work parking area (not to mention I'm short and was tired of vaulting out of it too).

That's a great question! I had worried about that too. After asking some other folks and riding in a wolfsberg w/ 18" Porsche turbo twists (at around 120 I might add, but that's another story ~ note the gray vanagon in that link I posted 260HP WRX powered w/ a Weddle geared tranny).

Things stopped like normal. The overall tire height is almost identical to stock and it's within a few pounds of a steel wheel and 8-ply tire. Since I am being pushed around by a "raging" 85hp 1.9L I should be alright :-)

I do intend on making some changes. The fellow with the WRX powered ride put a set up Boxster brakes up front. I'd like to duplicate his setup and add the smallcar rear disc kit too. I think that would be a nice addition to the end goal drivetrain of 1.9 TDI w/ a long legged transaxle (Karl Mullendore where are you!)

So, that's my warped non-status quo what the heck am I getting myself into oops too late to quit now project :-D

Brian

PS

If all else fails with the brakes I'm thinking of adding this:
