But, Bill ... that's only for a full Westy and only on the passenger side.

Those with, for example, 7 passenger models and/or those with aux batteries don't have that "Protection".

That being said, I have never worried about the battery(s) location(s) and I didn't with my older beetles either which had the battery under the rear seat.

The battery in my Model A Ford was under the front floorboard ... but wait ... safety wasn't a consideration when they were designed. :-)
