From a safety bulleting the colorado state patrol put out a couple years ago. Most fatalities and serious injuries in rollover accidents of any kind are caused by one of two things.

Victim is ejected and crushed by vehicle rolling over them or impact with the ground.

Victim is fatally or seriously injured by flying debris within the vehicle.

There are many makes of vehicle with batteries internal and under seats other than vanagons and the battery if significant would have been on the list and the nhtsa would also be banning the practice.

Out of the rather large number of vehicle fires reported, only a handful were from accidents and none of them appeared to be from rollovers. Opening the hood was listed as a good way to obtain a burn injury.
