Mark,
At 20 mpg I get 320 per 16 gallon tank.
Diesel will get about 380 miles.
It costs $43.00 to fill with gas. Diesel gets
about 26-30 per gallon. It costs $49.00 to fill.
Diesel gets up to 48 miles more per tankful, so
the six dollars spent for the same amount is like
24 mpg for the extra 6 dollars.
If you drive conservatively with the WBX or
inline-four engine properly tuned with good
compression, you can see up to 24 mpg at steady
speeds of 55 mpg or less.
With the five -speed trans I get 21 mpg city /hwy
mix up to 65 mph and stop and go traffic. Out on
a slow country drive it's 24 mpg .
The US had a 55 mph Fuel Conservation Act speed
limit in the 80's.
When economy was tossed in favor of power, the
55 limit was doomed.
Bringing back 55 or 60 is going to save a lot of
fuel.
Especially for the non-aerodynamic vehicles with
large displacement engines , and there are a lot
of those. It will also save lives. Truckers drive
speeds in excess of 80 mph, motorists are almost
all going 10 miles per hour over the speed limit.
This is wasting fuel, and endangering motorists.
5,000 truckers die every year by current
statistics. Drive I-40 interstate for a personal
understanding .In my inline -4 Westfalia 80 was
too slow for the trucks going 90.
We need to
1. Slow down
2. Send free bicycles to China
3.Good day
