Subject: Last Leak Fixed
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Today I replaced the O-ring that seals the cover over the shift point governer on the differential. Whoever last worked on it for the PO managed to pinch the old O-ring very badly and (unsuccessfully) attempted to remedy this error with red permatex. Subsequently, every low point on the transmission and differential had a little drip of red hanging off it. This was the only seal I hadn't replaced. Now, after 15 months of ownership and merely changing the engine, transmission, fuel tank seals and fuel lines, radiator, every single coolant hose, and removal of the rear heater circuit altogether, I finally have that rarest of all Vanagons: the kind with NOTHING leaking from it!

Now to see if I can tune the engine well enough using only the narrowband O2 sensor to pass the smog test. -- John Bange '90 Vanagon "Keine Bange, wir holen die Zange!"
