does "child seat" refer to infant seat, convertible seat, or booster seat? as far as i've learned, the infant seats require a lapbelt only, while the other two require a shoulder belt. are you saying you've figured out a way to instal the convertible or booster without a shoulder belt?

Oliver,

Our westy has bolt holes which I've used for the child seat the clip thingy in the rear deck, just in front of the engine hatch. I think there might be three bolt holes but I only needed one for a single car seat so I never looked for more!

You can put the child seat's tether over the top of the rear seat, then down to the clip thingy that you've bolted to the rear deck. The clip thingy is under the rear cushion, so the tether holds the front of the cushion up when the tether is taut. It doesn't look perfect, but it's not a huge deal.

Email if you need more info. I can take a photo of mine if required. I think I got my clip thingy (which is standard) from a junkyard for free.

Hi all, I have an 87 Syncro and I need to mount three child seats across in the back seat. Is there a mounting or retrofit kit available for this model? I also own an Audi and it was free to have the dealer install a kit into the back. My local VW dealer is being less than helpful on the availability of such a kit. I understand that 1987 was before the federal mandate that all autos have the L.A.T.C.H. mounting points installed. Is this something that anyone else has run up against? I don't have a center seat and like the extra room that I have. Has anyone ever rigged a latch system from another car? Thanks, Oliver
