Missouri offers millions to land VW minivan line By Gregory Cancelada, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Aug. 24--The state of Missouri and Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler AG are negotiating a multimillion-dollar incentive package aimed at bringing a major investment to the automaker's South assembly plant in Fenton.

The negotiations pre-date news reports this week that Chrysler might build minivans for Volkswagen AG at the South plant, where about 3,300 people build the Dodge Caravan, Grand Caravan and the Chrysler Town & Country minivans.

Spokesmen at both the Missouri Department of Economic Development and Chrysler declined to comment on what they termed speculation.

Sources, who requested anonymity, said the state incentives would be in the tens of millions of dollars, though the total hasn't yet been finalized. No further details about the negotiations were available.

Article mentioned that the Canadian plant is currently running at capacity and that the southern plant is at about 50 percent.
