Subject: cv joint/boot and idle/ac questions
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed
Hi All,
I have a '87 Westy (stick) and have a couple of questions that I hope
someone could help me with.
First, gear oil is leaking from the transmission. I am going to order 4 cv
joint and boot kits from busdepot.com. A friend recommended that I also
replace the "cap" as well. See his note below. I checked busdepots website
and can not locate the part my friend is referring to, anyone have any idea
as to where I could purchase said "cap"?
"I think the part you are thinking about is the seal that fits inside the
drive flange on the transmission. In Bentley it is shown on pages 35.32 and
35.33. It is simply referred to as a "cap". I don't know if BD even sells
them. I have not checked their website but they may have them available. If
they do you should probably order 2 of them and we can replace both of
them."
2nd question....
My a/c has not worked since I purchased the van in 2000. My friend is
trying to determine why it is not working. When I turn on the a/c, my idle
revs up to at least 2500 rpms. I have also noticed that when I am running
the van at idle, the engine will rev to about 1600rpms. My friend cleaned
the idle stablizer valve and that seemed to correct the problem temporarily.
Do I need a new idle stablizer valve or maybe a ISCU? Anyone hear of the
idle acting this way with the a/c? Again see his comments below....
"With respect to the ISV and ISCU they are both expensive and I wouldn't get
either. I'm cheap and cleanig the ISV once in a while is easy enough. Before
you order either you should probably check with the list about that glitch
with the Air conditioning. If the list indicates that it is clearly an ISCU
problem that may be the way to go. They may point to something else as the
problem though and then you saved a cool $350.00 by not getting the ISCU.
The part that we actually cleaned out is the ISV though."
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jenny
