Mark: There is a brass ring and wiper under the steering wheel. As I remember, list vendors can supply. You need to pull the steering wheel to replace. Make sure that you have a Bentley handy. I paid $500 in 1997 for my plane jane 1984 7-passenger. I have put over 10X that amount into the van not including the exterior renovation and much of the labor I have done myself. Just look at the prices on new minivans and realize how much more fun it is to drive your Vanagon.
