Although it is not clear from the photos I posted (http://www.solisearch.net/ims/album.php?u_id=271241B2Q0 ) the crankshaft oil seal was countersunk by at least 1mm all round and I did check with a steel straight edge and at no point does the seal appear to come closer than 1 mm or so to the edge. I called two local parts stores I got different spec depths for the seal (9.5/10mm and 12mm). But when I picked up the 9.5/10mm spec seal (which is a Reznor same as the one busdepot sells I think) and measured it, it was 12mm which is what the seal I removed measures (also a Reznor). So, am I still getting a seal that is too thick and can this realy be the problem since it definately does not stick out beyond the edge of the bearing housing.... Thanks David

. . . and use the correctly sized seal driver. You can roll your own driver, just make sure it fits the seal pocket closely and it edges are well eased.
