Subject: Upgrading DA6 heater electronics?
Comments: To: diesel-Vanagon@yahoogroups.com

I am looking into a diesel heater for my '88 - the Espar D1 or D2 models appear to be the perfect solution, except for the price - about $1800 CDN new. I have a DA6 in my '82, but of course it has the quirky 25 year old electronics. Has anyone tried upgrading a DA6 with electronic controls from a newer model? Specifically, I'd like to have the ability to run for extended periods with the engine off, so power consumption and noise are issues. I don't know if the low speed setting on a DA6 is low enough for long term operation. The low speed on a D1/D2 uses very little power and fuel, and is controlled with an electronic t-stat.

Any ideas appreciated...Shawn Wright http://zuiko.sls.bc.ca/~swright '85 Jetta D '88 Westy 1.6TD 5 speed (see progress at http://members.shaw.ca/vwdiesels) '82 Diesel Westy
