Hi all and thanks for all the info. i did check the TPS and found the small set screw for the idle switch in a bit to far and i backed it off till it just made contact and turned in 1 full turn as per the bentley. also found the cold start air bypass hose was at a sharp angle and was sorta pinched so i fixed that and swapped my old AFM back into the bus that had the Capacitor fix on it. basically looked over everything and it seemed ok. so off for a drive to my moms house to pick something up. not many stop lights but it did feel better on take off still lacking power compared to my 84 non westi. im going to do a compression check on it to see if the dreaded valve floating problem i had is back to haunt. also the switches checked out fine and i dont have a vacuum gauge so i need to put one on my xmas List. and i dont have a problem with jerking, stalling or serging just a lack of get up and go. all the intake parts from afm to heads were cleaned sand blasted and repainted and the throttle body was fully cleaned and all new seals thru out. also replaced all hoses and cleaned all grounds. ive not checked the full throttle position with someone else pushing the pedal but did check the switch and its within specs. i will be cleaning the electrical contacts on the switches though. just for fun i got on the free way and stomped on it with my 84 and later with the 85 westi and found that both had equal power when stopped on the floor. is there a primary / secondary type throttle body for this pig or a better fuel management system for the vanagon in general. dual carbs are ok and i have a set of duals for a type 4 but im sure finding intake manifolds would be a different story. i helped install a factory new 1600 cc in a 71 vw bus just 2 months ago and we put a set of Dual 40 Kadrons on there and it put my 84 and 85 to shame. ive never been much on stupid power and if i was i would have a different vehicle but what can be done to unleash the power. not looking for hole shots and going 110 down the freeway just want to pull into traffic and not be told to look up with the middle finger salute. by the way 70mph in michigan is merely a suggestion. c-ya and thanks Jonce

( throttle >possition >switch?) also i dont know how to check vacuum readings what does this take >to test?? and in the bentley where is this located?? thanks Jonce

>>It's the TPS that isn't right. >>You mentioned you checked it / adjusted it before. >>What ohm readings did you have at idle and wide open throttle? >>When a helper was holding the gas pedal down, what readings did you have? >>What kind of vacuum readings did you have at closed throttle?

>>This is all TPS related stuff, and you'll continue having the same >>problem's until it's corrected.

>>Do you have an early 85 or a late 85?

>>The difference is a low speed switch, and a high speed switch, or just >>one that does it all in the later model.
