Split Window and Bay busses are more in demand than Vanagons. Vanagons are a third choice for most people looking for a VW camper or bus. Personally I'd prefer a 78 - 79 Bay Westfalia over the last Westfalia I owned. The bay busses are lighter and run faster with the Type IV engines than 80-83 with Air Cooled Engines. The down sides to the Bay and Split window are the absence of a big hole over the engine for easy access. I found that I could live without the big engine cover once I learned enough to replace everything on the top of the engines that could possibly fail. I recall several 6 month time periods when I only opened the engine bay to check or change oil. If you're going to invest heavily into a VW box I'd suggest that you invest in something that has or will become a classic collectable within a few years. Then there is the other: It's just a matter of choice.
