Subject: Spare Tire Stowage Mod

Some of you with larger tires/wheels may be interested in this.

This is what I've done to stow the spare in the stock spot under the front of the van, using the Van-Café spare carrier mod. bar. I also added hinged extensions where the bar attaches to the frame cross member. It was on the back of the van in the 2" receiver, on a modified Thule Bike carrier.

The wheel/tire size is 215/65-16, deflated Nokian Hakkapeliitta C2 M/S. I'm almost certain I can remove the hinged extensions and will try that later today. Deflation sure makes a big difference in this mod.

Bob Stevens '87 Westy Syncro "Passion Fruit" Not too crazy about the "exposure" of the spare to FOD. May see if I can mod the clam shell and use it. Kind of a fun project.
