You have been using an Audi filter; the differential pressure bypass is set at 2.5 Bar. The correct filter for a Vanagon is the 719/12 which has the bypass set at 1.0 Bar. As far as not mattering, there are some vans running around out there not even making 2.5 Bar at full throttle.
