The two ARE interchangeable as long as you exchange them as an assembly which includes the necessary carrier. The elemental difference between the two is that the guide pins of the Girling caliper assembly are fixed to the caliper body and float in the carrier whereas the guide pins of the ATE caliper assembly are fixed to the carrier and the caliper body floats on them. The ATE caliper assembly could be considered to be a better design because the caliper body is not overhung as it is in the Girling assembly. The downside of the ATE design is that the guide pins are more exposed to the elements. George |
