David, I monitor the alternator carefully for battery issues, bad contacts including grounds. Also monitor my multiple camper batteries, possible load issues with the 1500 watt stereo system. But most important is the fact that I use an adjustable regulator on the alternator and I'm always concerned about excess engine compartment temperatures causing output problems. On the issue of a clean install, couldn't agree more. I think my approach is cleaner than the original and with yellow electroluminescent gauge faces, I might convince the law (tailing me from behind) that alien entities inhabit the cockpit and should be left well enough alone.
