Subject: Re: Steel coolant pipe repair ideas

Some 85 vanagons were equipped with plastic coolant pipes for the 1.9.Try a junkyard. Many 85, 1.9 vanagons show up there(dont know why-where do all the post 86 vanagons go?).This pipe was installed for only 1/2 a model year and is somewhat rare.I got 2 in my parts van, but you cant have them. Gotta drop the gas tank to change them. The steel pipes corrode from the outside, to the inside.Actually only one pipe typically corrodes at the bend. The rest of the pipe(s) are perfect still. I have seen that universal radiater hose repair several times, and wouldnt worry about the hose slipping off.It is ugly though.I put 2.1 pipes on my 85. I used a top radiator hose from a 4cyl maza 626 to complete the fit.No problem for 30K.I understand that you dont have powersteering tubes to worry about, as these will corrode through at about the same time, and at the same place.
