The way I try to remove the slave cyl braclet and slave is to remove the circlip from the actuating arm that is splined to the crosshaft and try to pry it off..Assuming it is not rusted on...Then the bracket can be removed from the trans and hang down out of the way or make it easier to get at the bolts to repl. If your trans has ever been to me, the arm will usually come off fairly easily. I think that the European theater in WWII would have wrapped up much sooner if they had GIs work on Vanagons before going into battle.

"Look, Joe. There's the guy who designed the clutch slave cylinder mounting bracket, there in that machine gun nest!"

"Yaaaaaah, I'll get you, you lousy ......"

I dropped my motor and tranny today and wound up removing the slave cylinder to replace it. What a royal b!tch. I tend to work on my own, rather than call my son or have the little lady come out. Sometimes it's fun to skull out ways of doing things solo. This is not fun.

So what's up with the slave cylinder and the hidden bolt head? Is there a smart way to R&R that thing?

ps: I know there were no Vanagons back then, but it helps me illustrate my point. Poetic license and all that.
