Unless the Wave 3 design has been changed in the last couple of years, I don't think it has any kind of automatic shutoff other than a "100% safety shutoff valve," which I take to mean that it completely shuts the gas off in case the catalytic process goes cold. I don't think it has any kind off low oxygen shutoff.

However, it uses a lot less fuel than anything I looked at, per BTU, and therefore will deplete less oxygen than the others. That being said, I still cross ventilate as the directions say and mounted a pancake computer fan in the window above the stove (check it out at http://www.knology.net/~felder/Vanagons/) to pull air into the van and I get no condensation. I love the heater and its output!

It's mounted on the bulkhead behind the passenger seat, so it can't tip over.
