Robert: Just last month I removed, disassembled, lubed and replaced both my power window motors after setting the guiness world record for the slowest moving power window. By the time I was able to get the windows rolled down the seasons would change and I needed them up again. Anyway, I followed Mark Keller's advice and cleaned the existing motors up and now I am amazed at how quickly they roll up and down. They are fitted with a friction sleeve (just made that term up) type bearing with not a ball bearing to be found. So, they are subject to corrosion and slowing to the point where they start blowing fuses. I've got some pics showing the process out on my site if you care to see them. Go to http://www.weidefamily.net/vanagon/ See the Electrical > Power Window section and look for Power Window Motor Rehab. Good Luck, Brent
ps: On the subject of window switches....You'll have a dickens of a time getting them back together once you pry them apart. Unless you have a LOT of time on your hands, I recommend replacment if you doubt their soundness. |
